Positive Registry Approved in the Senate

The project that changes the conditions for the inclusion of taxpayers in the so-called ‘Positive Registry’ without the need for authorization from the holder of the CPF or CNPJ has been approved in the Federal Senate.

This project had already passed through the Chamber of Deputies, which approved it with some reservations. The Senate did not question any of the changes.

It’s important to note that the Positive Registry will consist of consumers without a history of delays or defaults, known as ‘GOOD PAYERS,’ whether they are individuals or legal entities!

This project is not recent; it was created in 2011, and the significant change is that now it is NO LONGER NECESSARY to have the authorization of the holder of the CPF/CNPJ. What is now possible is that the consumer can:

  • Request the removal of their name from the database.
  • Perform a query about their data.
  • Check their history.
  • Find out their score in the registry.

From a financial perspective, the expectation is that, if sanctioned by the President of the Republic, it could lead to a DECREASE in the interest rates for these compliant individuals, as they represent low risk for those conducting commercial or financial transactions with them.

Senator from Paraná, Oriovisto Guimarães, from the PODE/PR party, stated that ‘If it doesn’t effectively help reduce interest rates, at least it removes an excuse that banks frequently use to justify their high spreads. Just for this aspect alone, it’s a positive project.’

This is the society’s expectation, which has, until now, paid very high interest rates because operations ‘carried high risk.’ Now there is no reason to maintain high-interest rates for those included in the Positive Registry, allowing them to negotiate lower rates in operations such as:

  • Overdraft.
  • Loans.
  • Vehicle purchases.
  • Real estate acquisitions.
  • Other transactions.
